Community service should follow passions

Daily CardinalDana Sitar – You don’t have to make a commitment to make a difference; you just have to care about your cause. If you are interested in serving your community, Your Cause This Week can help you plan a volunteer opportunity that works for you and serves the cause that you care about. Don’t underestimate the impact of that single act; every step you take will make a difference to your community and the causes you want to serve. And always be aware that as you take that step to serve your cause, there are others taking steps in the same direction. The combined impact of these single acts can make a great difference to your community.

Small acts, big impact

Tri City VoiceAlyson Whitaker – If your community doesn’t have official projects planned, don’t let that stop you from volunteering. There are opportunities everywhere. Deliver a box or bag of groceries to a family going through tough economic times. Volunteer a morning at a local shelter. Help your kids draw some pictures and deliver them to an assisted living facility in your neighborhood. Help a friend with some yard work or minor home repairs. Grab a trash bag and pick up the litter on the block of sidewalk near your home. You’ll walk away with a lighter step and a smile, knowing you’ve done something good.
